Chocochic - Fancy Food Show 2008

Gourmet_foli

At the NYC Fancy Food Show last week, I discovered Chocochic - a UK chocolatier with beautiful branding and packaging. The bold and liberal use of vivid aqua blue (even more vivid than the photo shows) make the line striking and unique. The structural designs are also quite good.

The Bubble Roome

Clementine3

The Bubble Roome is a small (1 person) bath and body company based out of Brooklyn. It was started by David Johnston, who serves at the owner, designer, and formulator. With a background in design he has created a beautiful line of products:

"I wanted to base the design concepts on turn-of-the-century apothecary labels, but knew that that wouldn't be enough ... I also wanted to add the use of pattern and color that the Victorian's used and their delicate and intricate type design. But I didn't want this to look too retro, I wanted it to be updated, to reference the 1900's without creating something too reverential or precious ... The label placed on the look of The Bubble Roome? Neo-Victorian."- David Johnston

Designed by Madrid based Baud: "The aims of the label were: to highlight the winemaking process, to make the label intelligible for the blind population and to present and outstanding wine with great appeal for the general public." Beautiful!

Veetee Dine in

Dinein1204283129

Continuing the chronicles of packaging I saw at the Fancy Food Show last weekend – Veetee's range of ready rices. I like the way the visual of the packaging refers to the ideal situation; you haven't got the time, energy or capacity to make authentic Indian rice, but this is how it could be served and how this rice could taste. The small visual of the garnish takes a somewhat unappetizing structure and makes it more palatable.

Origins Organics

The Green trend is starting to look less like a trend, and more like a permanent segment to the retail shelf that is here to stay.

Origins has launched a certified organic line:

The line is organic, but I am not sure about the PCR content. It's standard looking packaging with several airless pumps and PET (looks like) plastic bottles. If it is not a PCR pack, it would be a shame to see all this work on organic formulations going into standard containers with so many eco-friendly bottles hitting the market.

The first full line of prestige skin, body and hair care products to be certified under the consistently stringent standards of the USDA National Organic Program. (taken from the site)

Tyrrell's Vodka

Fancyfood_tyrrells01_3

You know Tyrrell's, but did you know they made vodka? I certainly didn't. It makes sense as a way to promote a love of potatoes – if you're making chips, you may as well make vodka too, right? This bottle keeps the simplicity of the chip designs and the illustration style, and places a foot in the vodka category by using the back of the bottle for the imagery.

Hennessy Ellipse Cognac

08_ellipse_q1Asm_hennessy_2
Launched late last year, this bottle costs a hefty 6,990.00€! It has a slightly higher alcohol content (43%) and is a refined blend (etc etc) I love the way the bottle can sit either way, it's beautiful glass design and has the air of a perfume bottle about it.

Atelier Works wine bottle for RSA

Rsawines01

I love this very simple execution from Atelier Works for the RSA wine bottles. In their words:

"What you want from a bottle of wine is a glass, or several glasses. The wine, as it is poured out of the bottle, drops down through the cut out image of the glass. The real bottle AND the glass image AND the real glasses all get emptied."
