The $15,000 Scotch:
"The Macallan Single Malt is launching the third decanter in a series of six within The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars Collection. The limited-edition, hand-crafted bottle contains an exceptionally rare 57 years old single malt Scotch whisky – the second oldest whisky ever to be released by The Macallan.
This third decanter in The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars Collection is inspired by The Macallan’s Finest Cut, that fraction of the new make spirit which is filled into casks for maturation. At The Macallan, this fraction is a mere 16%; it is the heart of the run, the best of the best, delivered at a very slow rate of distillation to maximize flavor and deliver the distinctively rich, fruity, viscous character of The Macallan’s new make spirit.
Designed exclusively for The Macallan by the legendary French crystal house LALIQUE, The Finest Cut decanters have been individually numbered and produced in a very limited quantity—only 72 of the 400 launched worldwide will be available in the US, ensuring that this introduction will follow in the footsteps of its two predecessors — a 50 Years Old Macallan celebrating the exceptional oak casks and a 55 Years Old Macallan inspired by the distillery’s insistence of natural colour — and become an extraordinary collector’s item."

I happened to stumble upon some really awesome vintage design in the unexpected form of ammunition packaging. What I liked most about these boxes is the heavy wordiness evident in most vintage packaging, the classy and ornate fonts and detailing. The way these designs pull together gives me a truckload of inspiration for my next packaging design project. This stuff would totally inspire me for a single malt or beer label for instance, or maybe a men's body care collection.

Ferroconcrete was asked to develop the brand for éple, a sophisticated new fruit store located at the Los Angeles Third and Fairfax Farmer’s Market. We named the store, packaged the products and created the tagline House of Decadent Fruit. The name éple was inspired by the first fruit temptation in the Garden of Eden. The brand represents the company’s belief that fruit can be decadently packaged comparable to fine chocolates. In today’s health-conscious society, it’s nice to have healthy gift options that are still beautiful and indulgent.
Chris Chapman is a London-based designer with an inventive side to his creative thinking. Meaty Packaging is a packaging concept featuring a new way to package fresh meats. He suggests using a biodegradable material, and less of it than the current typical meat packaging. The graphics are friendly and lighthearted - a nice alternative from what you might expect for meat.

An interesting concept was sent in by London-based Japanese designer, Yuko Sugimoto. The concept is called Zero, and is a packaging system for woman's sanitary napkins designed with the intention of creating a less embarrassing style package that looks less-obviously like sanitary napkins. The super-minimal design is coupled with the use of much less packaging material for a more eco-conscious approach. Inner liners were eliminated and replaced with an extra-long tape device, allowing the used product to be effectively bound up and disposed of. Cotton replaces paper pulp for a more renewable material, including outer wraps. The designer worked with Madoka Takuma on this project. Yuko's packaging concept won 2nd prize at the 2008 D&AD student awards.

"To set the scene for the design, Hendrick's is a unique gin that's produced with a rose petal and cucumber infusion. A Hendrick's and tonic is served with a slice of cucumber, so for Hendrick's events and some exclusive bars we felt that it was appropriate to package the cucumber with the respect it deserves."
