Wee See

Loving the design for Wee See, a series of DVDs for ages 0 to 100:

"Part art installation, part pacifier, Wee See is a collection of black-and-white animations built from basic shapes to delight both child and parent. As vision develops slowly over the first months of life, Wee See provides surfaces of bold, well-defined artwork to engage your baby’s curious mind and bring the screen to vibrant life.

Studio Spotlight: Visual Asylum

 

Some great recent and past work from San Diego based design studio, Visual Asylum. Visual Asylum is a firm with an array of design expertise ranging from print, environmental, branding and of course packing. 

Madonna "Hits" CD

We think Adam Larson of Adam&Co. creates some pretty cool packaging. Apparently others do, too; he was one of a handful of artists invited to present concepts for Madonna's forthcoming Greatest Hits album entitled "Hits," due out September. The project evolved in a different direction but we thought this packaging deserved to see the light of day in some form or fashion!

Bafta Awards Invitation

Burgopak Ltd. and Uber Agency teamed up to create these invites for the BAFTA awards. Of the invites, they say:

In a joint design venture, Burgopak Ltd and Uber Agency have developed an innovative and striking invitation for the recent BAFTA awards night. Showcased down the red carpet, the sleek black and white designs blended in handsomely amidst the glamour of the star-studded event.  

Packaging design company Burgopak incorporated their patented ‘slider’ mechanism into the design, providing a smart and distinctive package to accompany the guests. The simple sliding tray action reveals the invitation, with artwork designed by Uber. In a classic and elegant approach, the design features the iconic BAFTA masks on both white and black packages. 

Burgopak and Uber are further working in conjunction to create invitations for the upcoming Craft and TV awards.

Nine Inch Nails: Ghosts I - IV Limited Edition

Nine Inch Nails presents Ghosts I - IV, a brand new 36 track instrumental collection. Almost two hours of new music composed and recorded over an intense ten week period last fall, Ghosts I - IV sprawls Nine Inch Nails across a variety of new terrain.

Trent Reznor explains, "I've been considering and wanting to make this kind of record for years, but by its very nature it wouldn't have made sense until this point. This collection of music is the result of working from a very visual perspective - dressing imagined locations and scenarios with sound and texture; a soundtrack for daydreams. I'm very pleased with the result and the ability to present it directly to you without interference. I hope you enjoy the first four volumes of Ghosts."

The ultra-deluxe limited edition package was limited to 2,500 copies which sold out within 36 hours at $300 each. It includes two CDs, a data DVD with all the multi-tracks for remixing, a 24 bit/96 kHz Blu-ray disc, four 180-gram vinyl records, a 48-page book of photographs and two Giclee prints in high-quality luxurious packaging numbered and signed by Trent Reznor.

This compilation also comes with a digital scrapbook with all the imagery found in the deluxe package which can be found and downloaded here.

Wu Sheng: Poems & Songs

Another Grammy nominee is Tawainese artist Wu Sheng. The release of Poems & Songs is encased in a superbly designed wooden digipak by Qing-Yang Xiao, art director for Ring of Fire Music. From their website: "Wu Sheng emerged as one of the great Taiwanese poets of the 1960s. He delves deep into Taiwanese village life and his writing has inspired a whole new generation of Taiwanese songwriters. This special box set includes a CD of his songs, a CD of his poems and a DVD.
