Celebrating 7 Years of SVA’s Masters in Branding Program

On November 15, 2017, the annual alumni-produced Brandstand event was held at SVA’s theater featuring an incredible lineup of speakers, including Paola Mendoza, Jim Johnson, Brian Collins, Derek Thompson, and Charles Blow, who explored America as a brand and the role of artists in reviving its heartbeat. Artist and activist, Paola Mendoza’s words echoed beyond the evening, "Create art that doesn’t just mirror reality. Create art that engages deeply with the world we’re living in. Let your art be the hammer with which you shape the world you want." Watch the event online.
In an effort to challenge and democratize the rules of contests in advertising and design, the esteemed faculty of the MPSB program took a sweeping look at commerce and culture and analyzed thousands of brands to identify the First Annual Brand of The Year. There was no entry form to fill out, no entry fee to pay. In fact, there was no effort at all by any brand to be considered for this award. Announced at Brandstand by program Chair, Debbie Millman, the pink Pussyhat is proof that branding has the potential to become a profound manifestation of the human spirit.
The branding program held its annual open house in November to welcome prospective students into its studio to learn more about the program and meet faculty and alumni. The program is open to anyone with a Bachelor’s degree and is currently accepting applications for the 10-month program beginning Fall 2018. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2018.
