In the small village of Hnanice, in the South Moravian winegrowing region of the Czech Republic, is Ko?ínek Winery. With a few different varieties of wine, they wanted to have some noticeable differences between each one. Pergamen was tasked with creating a distinct logo and labels for their wine range.
“The winery’s vineyards are located at the border of the national park in the valley of the Thaya River (Czech: Dyje). Therefore, we decided to name the basic range of wines ‘Greetings from the National Park’ and chose illustrations of animals living in the surroundings as the main leitmotif of the labels. Each variety has one animal assigned to it, and thus the differentiation between them is easier.”
“The illustrations are created by linocut technique to emphasise the craftsmanship of winery. Single-colour imprints of the graphics have a slightly different coloration, just as they would have if they were printed directly from a linocut block. The illustration is complemented by a seal with the name of the variety stamped in metallic foil and the new winery logo, the initial K with embedded roots, referring to the name of the vintner (Ko?ínek means ‘rootlet’ in English), which also conceals small houses within the vineyard alleys where the winery is located.”
