San Francisco Bans Plastic Bottles
San Francisco has just become the very first city in the United States to ban the sale of plastic water bottles! In response to the global movement of reducing the amount of waste we produce, this act is a bold move for the bay area. With a goal to achieve zero net waste by 2020, plastic water bottles smaller than 21 ounces will no longer be allowed on the city property. Violators of the ban will face fines of up to $1,000.
Although the city has only good intentions with creating this law, not everyone is on board.
The American Beverage Association and bottled water industry is less than enthusiastic. They claim that banning bottled water at concerts and other large events will drive consumers to choose alcohol or carbonated beverages instead of a healthier alternative of water.
