Half Hitch

Global design agency jones knowles ritchie (jkr) paired up with gin maker Half Hitch to produce bottle packaging for its new alcoholic beverage infused with bergamot and black tea. 



jkr distinguished Half Hitch as a brand that recalls Camden Lock's rich history as the heart of London's gin distilling and warehousing in the late 1800s. 

“The design of Half Hitch was rooted in the heritage of Camden’s industrious past. The heft and wrought iron cues were expressed through the use of a metal label and finished in a mix of colored lacquers and monochrome to capture both the craft and the beauty of the product itself. Authentic and bold, our desire was to reflect the effort and determination that goes into every bottle to deliver such a distinctly British gin.” Daniela Nunzi-Mihranian, creative director, jkr.

The gin’s name and bottle label stems from the type of rope knot - a round turn and two half hitches - used by those mooring up their barges along Camden Lock.  

Combining a distinct aesthetic with a crystalline polish, Half Hitch makes great use of interesting paper types and finishes that give this glass bottle packaging an elegance that resonates with the brand's historical muse.
