Collection: Packaged in Ukraine
by Ivan Navarro on 03/27/2014 | 5 Minute Read
For this week’s collection, I decided to compile projects designed in Ukraine. As we have seen in the news, the country has been going through a political crisis - some would say revolution - over the last few months. At the core of the issue is a country divided by deep traditions to the East, while also looking to embrace the values of the West.
As designers, we look to our past to reference the bits and memories that enhance our work, while also striving to create work that speaks to our individuality (client willing of course). I was curious to see if a narrative between traditional and modern, east vs. west, or a combination of these was present in brand packaging from Ukraine.
Looking at these projects there are clear homages to the mother country with references to the Carpathian Mountains, and the presence of abundant wildlife. The projects on the other side of the spectrum seem to embrace the aesthetic of many cosmopolitan brands, many Westerners go crazy for - Waldo Trommler Paints and Coffee House London being designed for international market
