The United States Coast Guard | Station Portland

Designed for the United States Coast Guard: Station Portland this project features a handcrafted and labeled commemorative bottle and housing, presented to the men and women during their farewell ceremony. The farewell ceremony takes place at the end of time stationed at USCG: Station Portland, and thanks the individuals for their service, while wishing them well at their next station.

Inspired by the daily sites of the US coastguards and what Portland is known for, Mike Lin created unique handcrafted gifts to be presented at the farewell ceremony with elements of wooden shipping crates, waxed sail cord, textured traditional papers, a glass bottle with a lightening stopper. Elements which will remind the men and women of the coastguards of Portland after their departure.

A follow up project, created parallel to the USCG Coast Guard design I had done previously this design is unique in that only a single bottle was made. It was created as a token of thanks to the Executive Officer whom gave me the opportunity to begin design work with The United States Coast Guard, and helping me begin a long term professional relationship with this branch of the United States military.
