Caava Design built the Old Harbor Distilling Co’s entire brand, packaging, and visual strategy from the ground up. Old Harbor is a brand new distillery in San Diego, California and happens to be the only one in the downtown area currently.
The overall brand they created is designed to look weathered and seasoned. For the bottles, they wanted to use a single bottle type, but find a subtle way to differentiate the line of multiple products. The “Spirit Symbol System” was their solution for that. They created a distinct, branded symbol for each product. For the die-cut, embossed label, they set up a strong typographic hierarchy system that functions well for short or long product names. The Old Harbor Distilling Co. logo itself is screen printed directly on the bottle, which calls prominent attention to itself and distinguishes it from the competition.
