Developing Your Design Aesthetic: Meet Trina Bentley of Make & Matter

Trina Bentley, Designer and Owner of Make & Matter, will be presenting Developing Your Design Aesthetic at The Dieline Conference on Wednesday, May 14, 2014.

Trina Bentley is an award-winning designer and owner of Make & Matter, an Austin-based branding and packaging design shop. For more than a decade, Trina churned out work for publications, small firms, and in-house marketing departments. Upon discovering — and falling in love with — packaging design, Trina launched Make & Matter to focus on building brands and positioning them for success through beautiful, functional packaging solutions. With her gung ho approach, keen eye, and willingness to work (and rework), Trina has carved out a rewarding niche. Her work can be found in annuals, books, blogs — and most importantly, on the shelf at your local grocer.

Meet Trina Bentley at The Dieline Conference

In a world stuffed with talented designers and envy-worthy studios, this session is all about helping you figure out where you—and your work—fit in. Must you become a jack of all trades? Should you focus only on what you do best? And by the way, how do you figure out just exactly what that is? Trina Bentley will talk you through her decade-long journey and personal transformation from an indefatigable "YES!" woman to being a more selective, focused practitioner of design. She will share how she found her design voice, learned to trust her instincts, made the word "NO" her friend—and in the process, discovered a client base that wants all she's got to offer. Trina will share insights on her approach and nitty-gritty details of her process, including some tried-and-true techniques for pushing creativity on the clock. There will be plenty of case studies and process-based work examples—both successful and cautionary—along the way.

3 Main Take-Aways:

  1. Finding your design style and trusting your creative instinct
  2. Techniques for maximum creativity in minimum time
  3. Insight into process and approach—shown with a variety of design work
