Nexus Q

Nexus Q packaging created by Manual Creative.

"At the Google I/O developer conference 2012, the Android team announced the Nexus Q — a social media streaming device running an Android operating system, integrated with Google Play.

Working closely with Android’s industrial design team, we designed the product packaging experience and art directed the product photography. We designed the packaging as a perfect cube to contrast with the pure spherical geometry of the product. It was important to have a box that was flawlessly executed, with exact details in production. Smooth jet-black molded paper pulp trays cradle the relatively heavy product, beneath which sits instructions and cables. The graphic outer-sleeve is printed on a dark gray and black 'duplex' card: an uncommon material for retail packaging. Printing a dense photographic image onto this substrate proved challenging and required nine different inks to achieve the final result."
