The New Starbucks Logo
Today Starbucks unveiled a big update to their iconic logo:
"When we first heard about the possibility of modifying the Starbucks brand identity, our minds went wild with the possibilities. This was the project of a lifetime. The designers here at Starbucks have such a love for this brand – it’s what drives our creativity.
From the start, we wanted to recognize and honor the important equities of the iconic Starbucks logo. So we broke down the four main parts of the mark – color, shape, typeface and the Siren. After hundreds of explorations, we found the answer in simplicity. Removing the words from the mark, bringing in the green, and taking the Siren out of her ring. For forty years she’s represented coffee, and now she is the star."
Starbucks Rebranded Packaging
On the heels of announcing the redesign of the iconic Starbucks logo, the Starbucks internal design team sends in images of the core paper goods from the Starbucks rebranding:
"The work was done by the internal creative department here at Starbucks in partnership with Lippincott. The goal was not only to refresh the mark but to free the Siren from the ring, allowing her to be treated more artistically."

When Starbucks Goes Red: Introducing Starbucks Holiday 2013
“The red cups have taken on almost a cultural role, at least in the US, and now in a lot of other markets around the world as well. When the cups turns red at Starbucks, that’s one of the first cues that the holidays are upon us. The emotional connection that our store partners (employees) have when they open that first box of the red cups and start using them that first day, and the emotional connection they see from their customers, that’s what we strive for. They see that surprise and excitement: ‘Oh, the red cups are at Starbucks!’ It’s really special and all of us in the studio feel privileged to do the work that can create such an emotional moment and connection in our stores between our partners and our customers.”
– Terry Davenport, Senior Vice President, Global Brand and Creative Studios at Starbucks
It is engrained in our culture: It’s not Christmas until the Starbucks red cups arrive.
Here in Los Angeles, we have very few identifiers of the upcoming winter season. It never snows here, and “cold” is considered anything less than 70 degrees. For us, and for many people across the country and around the world, the iconic Starbucks red cups signal that winter has begun and the holiday season is upon us.
Williams Sonoma Holiday 2012-2013
"Each holiday season Williams-Sonoma creates a new line of chocolate confections for their customers. For the 2012-2013 season, Stout was tasked with setting the look and feel of the entire family of chocolates by designing packaging for key items such as the Mini Mud Pies, Toasted Marshmallow S'mores and Chocolate Butter Crunch. Each design was unique, but also needed to tie in with the rest of the system. The designs have a fun, nostalgic visual language and a rich color scheme of reds, golds and chocolates, thus making them perfect gifts or simply delicious treats to have out at holiday parties."
