Designed by Kirk Summers, Syracuse University Communication Design program.

Interesting idea; but why not a completely wood toothbrush? Eliminate the plastic all together!

because a completly wood toothbrush would then promote the concept of cutting down trees which we still do to much of.

What about the wood? Is it recycled?

The thing with wood is it's a renewable resource; whereas plastics are made from oil which is a non renewable resource. As long as the manufacturer is buying from a company that is replanting after logging it's much better for the environment.

Here is more information on the wooden tooth brush and its impact on the environment: http://lifewithoutplastic.com/boutique/plasticfree-wooden-toothbrush-adult-p-400.html

A note to the designer... Your product is truly great. The quality of the design is great and the concept is brilliant. :)

Have you considered these guys (Wisdom - http://www.wisdomtoothbrushes.co.uk/default.htm) may pursue you for trade mark breach and/or an action for passing off for using "Wisdom" and "Toothbrush" in your name? be careful.

Otherwise, love the idea and design.

Nice concept - the only part that bothers me however, is that the logo is very similar to Wind Mobile.

Nice concept; still needs a lot of finessing, though. So, making the whole brush in wood would be wasteful, but the wood block for the case is not? Nowadays there are SO many other eco-friendly alternatives to plastic that are worth exploring! Also keeping wood in the shower is not very hygienic... Nice try on solving a monstrous problem :)

Well hello, aha It seems as if there have been some interesting comments and questions...

To Clarify - The idea was simply making a small change to an everyday item to increase the consumer relationship aka "value" of the product, and to eliminate a large amount of waste.

I kept the head plastic because it seemed best for a sterile material that you would be comfortable putting in your mouth
----Since the handles are functional just in the sense of how you manipulate the head in your mouth to brush, touch, feel, ergonomics, and material value were the only considerations necessary.

I would much rather have a brush that is a fine cherry wood that I can become attached to as time goes on than your average plastic brush. That is the main concept driving the design and idea.

And for further clarification:

The most successful and valuable form of sustainability is in ReUsing an item and providing usage for an object long after it is expected to be finished. Because in any form of recycling, there is always some type of waste being emitted and/or produced. Keeping an object is really the only pure form of sustainability.
