Student Spotlight: Coffee Bag

03_22_11coffeebag1.jpg

Sofie Ehlers, a current student at the School of Visual Communication in Haderslev, Denmark has created a new take on how to drink coffee.

She took inspiration from tea bags and appropriated the same idea to coffee. Each serving of coffee is placed in a filterable bag. The brand has a color coding system for each blend/ roast as well has a marking system (with darken circles) to indicate the intensity of the roast.

Really nice job, noticed a couple of other brands using this kind of packaging solution, I wonder whether its easy to pick out a coffee bag when there are only a few left. Love the layout of information and the half-tone dot details, colour choice is strong and feels sufficiently sophisticated while communication the brands unusual proposition.

Branding wise, the type feels a little oddly balanced, the 'bag' might have worked more successfully centralised, saying that the swirls do bring it back in balance and have a nice flow to it.

Totally off-topic, but the logo reminds me of the Wiz Khalifa "Black and Yellow" album.

Great design. It's actually not a new take on drinking coffee - the filterable (Senseo) bag is already out for years and very popular in Northern Europe. However the sample package is very clever.
