Student Spotlight: Joel Derksen

Joel Derksen is a recent graduate from OCAD University in Toronto and he submitted this amazing project.

"This project explored the differences between urban farming and container gardening. I found one of the major differences between the two is the social element that urban farming has. The kit integrates the typical seed packets with social media, connecting with community, and delicious recipes to encourage a more social growing experience.

The product is named 8 -- for infinity, "8 fruits and vegetables", and the past-tense of the verb "to eat". (8, drink, and be merry.)"

Pictures after the jump!

Lovely project: well thought out and excellently executed: we all like to "have ate, drunk. and be merry"! :}

Superb work! I can't figure out how these comps were produced so professionally?! Can blind-embossing and wood-etching be done as samples as one-offs?! Dumbfounded!

Hi Shelley -- the blind embossing and wood etching were one-offs. It was a very expensive project to produce!
I had a metal slug of the logo made and stamped into the box & recipe book.
OCAD has a production lab where the wood etching was done by laser. Then I sanded & stained the wood for a richer colour. :)
