Student Spotlight: Tomoko Ogino

"The new package design of Peet’s Coffee and Tea brings innovation to the existing look and feel in order to attract an entirely new demographic of independent-minded young people."

The new see-through package is sustainable; it serves to unveil the natural beauty of the product without compromising its freshness or allowing sunlight to damage the beans, and it introduces an innovative, functional sealing method that continues to guarantee freshness. Given the market dominance of its competitors, it is clear that this new appeal is essential to Peet’s future success ― and the launch of a line of Peet’s instant coffee takes the innovation even a step further: strung-together coffee pouches that can be cleverly integrated into every day items such as computer bags, purses, backpacks, and clothes."

Designed by Tomoko Ogino who is a student at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California.

Nice and neat design! But I guess transparent plastic is not optimal for coffee bean packaging..?

Nice work but you know there's a reason you don't see certain items (like coffee and beer) in clear/transparent packaging. Putting beans in a clear plastic bag shows a lack of understanding of the product/company.

Thanks very much for your comments. Yes, you are right, usually transparent packaging is not an ideal choice for a product like coffee beans. However, for this project, I researched new technologies under development in Japan that allow both transparency and UV protection.
