The DBA (Design business Association) wrote a case study on the packaging. The brand has been around in the UK since 1937. They underwent numerous rebranding efforts over the years, but sales hit an all-time low in 2004. So, in 2006, Vibrandt was given the task of revitalising the brand. They discovered that consumers had a nostalgia about the brand... and hence the quirky, vintage imagery was born. Since its relaunch in February 2006, sales and distribution have steadily increased. Personally, I think it is an interesting package. I suppose if you weren't familiar with the product, you wouldn't know what to make of it. But tapping into consumers brand perceptions is a smart way to go. And it makes for a fun, contemporary package with a vintage-vibe that makes me smile.
