Elsa's Story

Milk_box_new_2

Elsa's Story is an Israel-based brand of premium baked goods sold internationally. The packaging is mostly white, with high key photos of cookies and pastries that are fresh and mouthwatering to look at. (I've found them once and tried them - they're quite tasty.) The unusual logo incorporates a vintage 'family photo' in black and white, with 'Elsa' circled in red pen. The entire brand premise is tied to the story of Elsa, whose influence is woven into every product. The branding was designed and developed by Israel-based agency, Neo Group. I am impressed with how Neo Group's team has successfully woven a believable, meaningful story into the backbone of this brand (whether or not Elsa is real or fictional).

Special credit for Studio Merhav which designed several of the best-selling packaging for Lachmi and Elsa's Story (crackers, yeast cake, chocolate chips cookies). Additional credits go to photographer Erez ben Shahar, food stylist Nurit Kariv  and Arie & Yasmin Photographers.

Senior designer Efrat Shtamfater, at Elsa's Story, specifically designed the Lachmi brownie products and the 2008 Christmas collection (images follow.)

Several additional images follow, including a few images of Lachmi products - a sister brand sold exclusively in Israel.

(Many thanks to Efrat, who was kind enough to send some images for this feature.)

Bewley's Tea Line

Beautiful new packaging from London based Jones Knowles Ritchie:

"As a famous yet traditional Irish brand they wanted to reinvigorate themselves so we updated their identity and created a contemporary graphic language for them and their packaging. With Bewley's enjoying such a rich heritage, we were able to re-engage the brand through design by expressing all the things that make it special. On a corporate level, this involved creating a word mark which developed and embellished the brands Edwardian routes. To this we added the flexible "swirls" of pattern, which reference the original cafes famous stained glass windows (designed by Harry Clarke, and now considered "priceless"). This gave us the tools for an identity which could develop in many directions across different product ranges, of which specialty tea, which uses the pattern as a window into the product, is just one."

My favorite part about this packaging is the sketchy drawings that distinguish the different chocolates. The light line work helps keep the type from being too heavy. I do think that there are type faces other than Helvetica that would have created the same affect, but a nice design overall.
